The Partners
In 1993, the formal signing of a partnership agreement between Ivy Glen International Company Limited of Toronto, Ontario Canada and Hang Full Garment Factory of Hong Kong brought together the minds and expertise of two apparel industry veterans who, since that time, have served as the driving force behind “Gateway International”.
Cheong (Andrew) Cheung
Managing Partner, Gateway International
Born in Hong Kong and educated in the United Kingdom, Andrew began his career managing export sales for “Hang Full Garment Factory”, his family’s Hong Kong based apparel manufacturing Company. Under Andrew’s direction, Hang Full significantly expanded its business operations in Continental Europe, Scandinavia and the United Kingdom throughout the ’80’s’ … ultimately turning its’ attention to the North American market in 1991. In 1993, Hang Full joined with Ivy Glen as a partner in “Gateway International Import and Export Company (Canada) Inc.”. Andrew’s expertise in apparel manufacturing and operations has played a vital role in contributing to the ongoing growth and prosperity of the Company since that time, ensuring Gateway’s ability to deliver on its ongoing commitment to provide the highest possible standard of quality and service to its clientele.
William (Bill) LeBlanc
Founding Partner, Gateway International
Canadian born and educated, Bill first entered the industry in 1977, serving in distribution and sales management roles with Nygard International (Tan Jay) Winnipeg. In 1982 Bill moved to Toronto, joining the GWG Division of Levis Strauss Canada as National Sales Manager, Womenswear and subsequently as Director of New Product Development for GWG before leaving the Company in 1988. In 1992, following service as Vice President of Bradshaw-Stradwick Inc. (at that time Canada’s oldest manufacturer of career and work apparel located in the Niagara Peninsula), Bill founded “Ivy Glen International Company Ltd.” (DBA “Gateway International”) an apparel sales and marketing agency which … less than one year later … restructured to welcome Hang Full as a partner in it’s operations. Bill’s extensive knowledge of the market and passion for the business continue to maintain Gateway International as a dynamic force both within … and at the forefront … of the North American apparel industry.
Stalworth and Private Label Service
Gateway International is a contract manufacturer and importer of custom (woven and knit) private label apparel programs. Currently, Gateway produces a wide range of products for both the Canadian and U.S. markets, including such items as casual pants and shirts (denim and twill), men’s cotton T-shirts and briefs, swimwear, seamless apparel, women’s hosiery and, of course, workwear.
While production quantities, lead times and costs differ by item, private label manufacturing is a viable option for any company looking to purchase in bulk quantities of as little as 30 dozen units (per style/colour … especially when utilizing available pattern, material and trim inventories). In addition to assisting in product design and development including full pattern and grading capabilities, Gateway also offers a complete range of labeling and packaging referral services for those Companies new to private label production who are keen on creating unique products styled and priced to meet their specific requirements.
